Routines and remedies that work for us:
Habits, Preventionsand General CuresBag Balm,
Color from the Garden,Garlic, Infrared Light Therapy, Massage, “NEWSTART,” Vitamins Bag Balm: You can find it in a green metal box at Walmart or Walgreens. It’s a soothing antiseptic originally used for cattle, but we use it to heal and protect any skin situation. Ernie says it even takes care of athlete’s foot. Color from the Garden: “I threw it away because it didn’t have any flavor.” Margaret Myers knows that produce at a good price is not always a good value. She realized the lack of color and flavor also signaled a lack of nutritional value. Shirley found garden-fresh food so satisfying that losing weight became easy. Many of our church members are experiencing the benefits of fresh, live food from even very small home gardens. For all the health benefits we think it’s worth paying that extra bit of attention to the pleasures of eating! Garlic: We know that garlic is
good for many things – fighting off a
cold, a
gall bladder situation,
or even cancer. But the
smell! – is no problem for Jose and Maria Tabares. With their 3-4 cloves of garlic a day, they take in some lemon, and it works! Parsley or Better Than
Greens also help, and taste good,
too, to some palates. Light Therapy (Infrared): Ross, Jack and Jean B. have tried the Light Therapy machine advertised on T.V. and they feel it really does help their deep muscle pain. It’s like a heating pad, but a deeper effect. Just fifteen minutes periodically is all you need. Massage: Bob Hope attributed his longevity (100+) to his daily
massage. At the ASI Convention,
Shirley experienced chair massage in
its use as an outreach tool–wonderful,
wonderful! NEWSTART: Nutrition: Many of us keep gardens and fruit trees, with super-fresh, organic, non-irradiated treats ever-ready to eat or to share. (Maybe that’s why a lot of us are way older than you think!) Bob Jackson will tell you his garden literally saved his life. (It’s certainly a joy to the rest of us! – Thanks, Bob!) Meanwhile, because it makes us feel so good, and keeps our minds sharp to hear the Holy Spirit, we acknowledge all of God’s health laws (diet, for example – remember the Garden of Eden?!) that come to our attention. Inspired advice from author E.G. White many years ago has, over time, made the health of those who follow it strikingly different from those who don’t. At the dinner served every Saturday noon after worship services we focus on vegetarian cuisine (meatless) and share our favorite recipes (many of them vegan – i.e., all plant-based: no animal products such as milk, eggs or cheese). The ever-popular Health Seminar which Community Services offers each Spring also includes a simple and tasty cooking school.
Exercise: In the Eden Gardens neighborhood we see a lot of friends walking and biking, mornings and evenings. Morning is perfect for a meditative “prayer walk.” The early evening hours are perfect for the recommended “walk after a meal.” (A lot of us thrive on two meals a day.) Our own shuffleboard court gets busy when family come to visit, and canoeing on the canals is a great way to enjoy nature. Outside of “the gardens,” the congenial mounts from “Just Horsin’ Around,” just 4 miles east towards Hwy 75, love to walk, trot and gallop over the 1500 acres of nature preserve. The golf course is just 2 miles west, golf-cart accessible by sidewalk from Eden Gardens. The Withlacoochee Trail, a former railroad bed, is a 54-mile bike trail (with plenty of rest connections) that passes right through Inverness. For shorter trips, walkers, bikers, and scooter chair riders enjoy good sidewalk all the way from Eden Gardens past the Senior Center, past a couple of miles of beautiful Lake Tsala Apopka (including a boating ramp and skiing) and up to “The Y” – a choice between shopping on the left or parks and government services on the right. Water: Agatha Thrash says it takes 6 8-oz. glasses of water daily to give your brain the fluidity of electrolytes to keep it functioning optimally. Many of us have found the theory in the book Your Body’s Many Cries for Water to be true: that much of what appears to be disease symptoms in this world is simply mild to severe dehydration. In his years of clinic practice Dr. Kinsman used simple, room-temperature water to treat anxiety attacks, colicky babies, and more. For good digestion, many of us routinely drink a glass of water a half hour before a meal And for weight control Marie Jackson reaches for a drink of water first when she’s hungry for a snack. Many of us drink several glasses upon rising in the morning, just to get a good start. Pat Porter says that pinched skin that doesn’t return immediately back in place is a warning sign for dehydration. Colored urine is another signal. Most of us are not drinking as much water as we think. For motivation at times, Jackie Kinsman fills a two-quart container with good water to use up as a one-day supply. Sunlight: Vitamin D2 by mouth is a popular supplement to the fifteen minutes of daily sunlight research has shown to be necessary for proper bone regeneration and protection. Meanwhile, for protection against sunburn Shirley finds Vitamin C powder mixed with your favorite moisturizer really does work for at least 4 intense hours. She says you do seem to tan quicker, however, or freckle up. Temperance: Some people call it, “balance.” King Solomon wrote a whole book about it, called Ecclesiastes. Air: Margaret and Jean find their Ionic Breeze units most refreshing. Shirley’s astonished at how fast odors disappear with an Eden Pure purifier, light treatment as well as ionization. The Bourke family follows the E.G. White recommendation, summer, winter, day and night, of keeping household windows open at least little. “It makes us feel refreshed and clear,” Celeste says. “Our children do not get sick” She reminds us of the great flu epidemic when a hospital was so full of dying patients that they had to put some of them in beds under a tent outside. “The tent patients survived!” Shirley remembers that’s how our prayer partner Viveca’s mother survived her childhood tuberculosis: by slipping out and sitting under a tree every day! (Her twin brother obeyed doctor’s orders, stayed in bed, and died!) Rest: “Don’t Forget the Sabbath” (Singing is healthy, too!) Trust in God: Practicing gratitude helps us remember that. Each week in Prayer Meeting we have Praise Reports before the Prayer Requests. Miracles happen. And as we see and appreciate them, love grows and life goes on. Better. Way past expectation. Vitamins -- As prophecy foretold, the earth has “waxed old like a garment,” and our soil and water are decreasing exponentially in their ability to supply the vitamins and minerals our bodies require. In spite of her healthy organic lifestyle, following natural remedies and all the health laws she had ever heard, wife and mother Celeste Bourque was confined to a wheelchair and declining alarmingly until her friends convinced her to try Vibe, a liquid vitamin / mineral with particles so small they’re immediately absorbed into the bloodstream. Now she’s happily attending church every week! You can call her at 1-877-281-4562 for more details and a free DVD, call Shirley, your webmaster, at 352-212-1468, or contact us! |

in bold type! Acid Stomach:
Dr. Collins recommended that we upgrade our “baking soda in a small glass of
water” solution to “pharmaceutical charcoal” in the water. It
worked for Shirley! Allergies: Ernie Porter reminds us that local honey, made by bees from local pollen, stops allergic reactions! Alzheimer’s:
10 oz. water every hour, both
day and night is the way a doctor “friend of a friend” was able to send
Alzheimer’s patients home, caring for themselves, after thirty days of
treatment. (The consequences? A new washing machine every thirty days! –
plus the usual confiscation of his clinic by the government watchdogs.) Anxiety: In his clinic Dr. Kinsman had wonderful success treating anxiety with a glass of water, at room temperature, prescribed to be sipped slowly. At the nursing home Shirley has seen amazing results of a few ounces of water calming agitated patients. There she’s also observed the opposite, dramatic consequences of dehydration. Blood Pressure: Eating grapefruit pulp (he says the juice alone won’t do it – you’ve got to eat the grapefruit) brought Ernie’s blood pressure down. For Jack S. the “magic bullets” are water and celery. (Easy enough?!) Bones:
You’ve heard, no doubt, that the digestion process actually causes
dairy products to leach calcium out of the bones, and that non-dairy
drinking countries have no problems with osteo-porosis. If you’ve heard stories of bones (and
teeth) actually being restored, you may want to ask the Bourques what
herbs tend to make that happen. Comfrey and wheat
grass seem to be major players. Cancer: 1) Jack Shaffer’s book on Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) tells how to use it for
just about anything, including cancer.
Recommended dosage is from 3-5 1,000 mg units per day, up to 30,000 in
three days. The worst that’s been
known to happen is a fever from the inside of the tumor where the cells are
dying. Sounds painless! 2) To disable the cells lurking in our bodies and eliminate the toxins that activate them many of us make a point of eating daily servings of some of these popular preventatives: cruciferous vegetables (especially broccoli and cabbage), almonds (for the laetrile they contain), and flax seed oil (a powerful antioxidant that has been the point item for years at a successful cancer clinic in Switzerland) possibly on salads, bread, or potatoes. 3) Cancer cells can not live in an alkaline environment. But stress, fried foods, meat, cheese, tea, coffee and all grains are acid-forming! Some of us are using Waiora zeolites from Bob Sweet to readjust body pH to safe levels for a natural cellular defense. 4) Phila Mae found an old medical recommendation that works for some of us: cooked asparagus, run through the blender and eaten morning and night, 4 Tbs. Cholesterol: Jean Oliphant’s cholesterol dropped from 283 to 194 when she started drinking 6 oz. of tomato juice with her policosanol and natokinase from Nature’s Life. She tried many brands of tomato juice and liked Great Value from Walmart the best because, she says, “it’s the reddest.” Cluster Headaches– Pat Porter says she hasn’t had a big cluster headache since her doctor recommended a diet with these restrictions: no wine or sharp, aged cheese; no citrus or bananas. She says that after all these years pain-free she can “get away” with a couple of slices of banana or maybe a slice of orange. Colds and Flu – The ASI website reminds us of a pleasant remedy Bob Jackson recommends: local honey, a tablespoon a day. Shirley catching a cold means she needs to catch up on a prevention routine: flossing. Long ago her dentist from the New Port
Richey church said he caught colds continually (from his patients) until he
started flossing carefully and brushing his cheeks and tongue,
too. Whether it’s really a cold or just the pollen, our pastor uses an Oriental technique to unblock sinuses: Massage the side of your nose, on the area just beyond the end of the bone, for a few seconds (longer than you’d think). The connecting nerve will open the sinus on that side. Shirley inherited her cousin Esther Lindsio Black’s (for years the lead colporteur in the Southern Union) sore throat stopper: Merthiolade. You paint a little on the offending part of the throat and zappo, the trouble is gone. A flannel cloth around the neck is Pruitt Johnson, Shirley’s father-in-law classic comfort for sore throat. Zinc and C lozenges work well for many of us. Let one or two melt in your mouth.
To stop a cough, that old Tenessee hillbilly trick of raising one hand high works for many of us who’ve tried it.. An eight-ounce glass of water every fifteen minutes will flush away all kinds of problems by the sixth glass. If you drink enough to feel like the water is going to come out your nose, that’s the signal you’re about to feel better. If you’ve got the time to really feel great, don’t forget the classic hot and cold shower (takes about 20 minutes to do). Three minutes of the hottest water you can stand, or, until your skin is pink and you may feel a little dizzy. (xa song. Really, after about awhile it will feel surprisingly O.K. Turn back to your hot setting for three more minutes. Another tingle! The antibodies your body generated in response to the cold water are now being distributed. Get comfortable, then back to the cold for two more minutes (it won’t feel as rough as before). Turn off the water , rub yourself down briskly with a towel and face the world feeling fantastic! Or, if it’s bedtime, end with hot water until you’re comfortably warm, dry well and climb straight under those covers. Constipation:
A “blockage” can actually kill you, so we’re glad “black magic” is
working so well for some of our members.
All it is is cooked prunes and raisins
(soaked). It works! It lets our friends enjoy life again! Energy / Depression – Bill’s chi machine (or Jack and Neda’s) gives a person
energy and better sleep, by putting oxygen in every cell of your body. It also extends the lung capacity of
Shirley’s flute students. This is
another, attractive application of NASA’s research on “the bounce” effect
that brought us those good old “rebounders” we used to use before we started
worrying about our knees! Now
you’ll see chi machines, under other names, has advertised in popular
magazines. Shirley says that, for the
way it met the needs of herself and her friends, the machine she bought years
ago has been well worth the investment. Flax seed, and flax seed oil, is a quick fix for a lot of us. It’s a good cancer fighter, too. Tastes great on salads, or bread, especially with a sprinkling of wheat germ or brewers yeast. Pastor choked down those liquid Vibe vitamins because they gave him an energy kick. But the new Apple flavor tastes great! Eyes – Bob Jackson is using one tablespoon lecithin granules every morning for his eyes Shirley’s eye doctor couldn’t understand her vision improvement after she began drinking carrot juice and flushing her eyes with “Dr. Christopher’s” eyebright every day. Then when Shirley got busy and stopped using her eybright for awhile, her vision got worse! A booklet called “Vision Freedom” says emotions play an important role in
one’s ability to see, especially the patience to allow your lens time to focus.
The Shaffers keep a standard eye chart
and an exercise string in the
bathroom, holding the string against the nose and focusing consecutively
on beads placed ten inches apart along the string (eyes separately and then
eyes together). Dr. Kinsman
uses poems and Bible texts especially formatted on the computer as eyecharts,
like this one. Palming (holding warm hands over the eyes) and visualizing (imagining a black dot, or, clearly seeing something you ordinarily might not) are helpful eye care for quiet moments. The cataract cure that worked for Shirley Shaffer was a drop or two of flax seed oil in the eye every night. Jack says raw honey would have worked, too. Kale is said to be the one food item contain elements to forestall macular degeneration! Sleep in a darkened area has been identified as an important preventive measure as well. Gallbladder – “Do you like beets?” That was Shirley’s chiropractor’s suggestion for avoiding surgery. Now she keeps canned beets handy (fresh would work, too) for “attack prevention”at any meal where fats are being served and she just can’t resist those fried potatoes. The juice works just as well. Dr. Schulze’s liver/gallbladder flush got rid of Shirley’s gallstones, but simpler remedies like the four-day apple diet (fresh, baked, sauce or juice) and the citrus approach (grapefruit, oranges, lemons, limes) also work. Theresa has a great outline for gallbladder maintenance. Jack’s plan for staying away from the hospital again involves Vitamin E. That’s it, according to the research he’s read, tested on hamsters. With this plan you can go ahead and eat those fried potatoes and sour cream, and so far it seems to be working. (Highest source of Vitamin E? Wheat germ. Other major players: almonds, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts and peanuts. Headache – The Taylors say this feels miraculous, if you’ve got a few minutes: Put your feet in hot (warm) water and possibly a cold, wet cloth on your forehead Congestion will leave the head and within fifteen minutes you’ll feel as though the headache floated away. If your feet are in a pan, start with them barely covered and keep a container of hot water nearby to reheat it. Also, have cold water or ice handy in a bowl, and an alternate cloth for your head. Peppermint oil massaged on your temples is an old Indian trick. Gentle pressure, 4 seconds on, 4 seconds off, especially at the base of the neck or skull, is a technique Dr. Kinsman used to use to refresh blood flow and make headaches disappear. Heart – When we felt we were having a heart attack right this minute, our members have found all of the following to be dramatically effective: 1) A violent cough or two. (a personal heart massage that gives the muscle a “jump start”) 2) Swallowing an aspirin (with water!), or putting one of those quick-dissolving little aspirin sheets on the tongue. 3) Taking a magnesium pill. 4) Swallowing a little cayenne pepper (what a jolt!) Since we’re prepared, lets us stay active, with
confidence. Meanwhile, for long-term
prevention and maintenance, of course, many of us are using CoQ10, chelation, vitamins,
olive oil and “good fat,” and of course the good old vegan diet low in saturated fat. Incontinence – One of our members (anonymous!)
is finding the research to be true:
that drinking lots of water soon makes it easier (not harder!) to keep
your pants dry. Injuries -- Weeks after a sprain Margaret Myers’ ankle was still weak, swollen and painful. She placed a banana peel, skin-side out, on the injury, followed by a warm, wet cloth. Then she wrapped the whole thing in plastic and held it in place with an ace bandage. By the following morning, it was markedly better! Margaret refreshed the banana peel and on the third day declared herself totally well! Shirley was in agony from a fresh
sprain, but the banana peel immediately gave comfort. She was feeling much better by the
following morning!
Connie Neve says a charcoal
poultice can draw away pain of all kinds, even bruised ribs! Donna Elms suggests mixing the charcoal
with Vicks Vaporub or plain old Vaseline. Knees – When Pat Porter learned that knee problems often result from imbalance in the muscles on either side of the knee, she began following the exercises suggested by David Nunez on 3ABN to correct that. She says she’s feeling much better! Horsetail tea recently shrank Jean Oliphant’s sprained knee and took the pain almost totally away within four hours. She says the doctor also told her another way to avoid knee surgery that seems to be helping her very much: Press on the knee “as though you were killing a small bug,” forcing it to really straighten, strengthen and align the ligaments. Richard at the Crystal River church says he has avoided surgery by wearing a magnet band around his knee. Pain – A charcoal poultice can draw away pain of all
kinds, says Connie Neve. She says it
even helped her bruised ribs! Donna
Elms suggests mixing it with Vicks Vapo Rub or plain old Vaseline. Shirley’s toothache subsided when she
coated a cucumber slice with charcoal and put it inside her cheek against the
gum. Rashes –
Leaves from live aloe vera plants put
an end to the rashes on Mildred Shaffer’s back when she became bedfast. Wearing only clothing with natural fibers
(cotton, silk and wool) is helping to keep those rashes away. Skin – Rinsing with distilled water, as Dr. Richard Schulze recommends, really does feel different! He also recommends “scrubbing” with organic cider vinegar and following that with a little bit of jojuba oil spiked with tea tree oil. (Olive oil is a less pricey alternative to jojuba, but easy to overdo. Flax seed oil also works. Jojuba is ideal for cosmetic use because it keeps without refrigeration.) Philla-Mae says be careful with the vinegar treatment – not too strong! Milk of Magnesia works for hours as an effective deoderant, a healthy alternative to aluminum-based roll-ons. On faces (rinsed off afterwards!) it’s good for wrinkle control. For an emergency deoderant trick, Shirley says that waterless hand sanitizer can work can work for a whole day! Skin Cancer –
Cayenne pepper seems to have worked
for Shirley in flushing out a “rodent tumor” on her nose. Putting a drop of zeolite in a dab of face cream or fresh aloe vera has helped with the healing
process and protection, too, with vitamin C
powder in it for sunscreen.
A heavy dosing of garlic made
some systemic corrections, plus a ten-day maintenance round of Waiora
zeolites for anti-cancer pH adjustment. The histones in asparagus seemed to
have helped, too (see “Cancer,” above). Sleep – So far none of these are really working for Dolly, but they might, for you: Valerian root, hops, or chamomile tea; a bar of Dove soap on the pillow or the scent of lavender; blue light, or blue-light infused water. For Ellen Taylor, a bit of vinegar in water worked for a night, but she will not make this a habit as it would leach calcium out of the bones. Teeth – Ask Doug Bourque what comfrey and wheat grass have been known to do for teeth (we can’t tell you here). 1-877-281-4562. Watch out! Cal Kinsman’s oral surgeon makes people wait three to five months if they’re taking Boniva or one of several other brand name intensive calcium supplements. Ask your dentist. They say these can be life-threatening to the healing process. Morning: For the cleanest mouth ever, Jean Oliphant starts her morning by swishing. In the morning, while doing other chores, swish a teaspoon of organic oil (peanut will do, or safflower) in your mouth for fifteen minutes until it reconstitutes itself from yellow to white. Once it’s drawn up all those overnight germs from every tooth and cranny in your mouth, spit them in the toilet and follow up with a careful tooth brushing with a cleaner like baking soda and peroxide. Feels fantastic! Clean and sparkly! The Rudabaga’s nutrition store in Inverness has the details.
Night: Pharmaceutical-grade charcoal used as a poultice dramatically drew infection away from Ellen Taylor’s teeth. It works as a protective agent at night as well, and brushing away the black granules in the morning leaves teeth exceptionally white and bright! Anytime: When he learned that the coating function of the gel in toothpaste that protects tooth enamel also hinders teeth from their normal repair and restore process, Jack Shaffer actually began brushing with Ivory Soap. Then, he discovered his pain doctor had his whole family doing the same thing, for the same reason! Anytime: The pain stopped after Shirley started using the waterpik, starting with the gentlest setting and smallest nozzle first. (Got it at Walmart.) FYI: The strontium in your supplements is a key element to calcium absorption. Thyroid -- The swelling on Shirley’s throat (a goiter) went down when she painted iodine a few times on a random place where it wouldn’t be seen or rub off (for example, on the inside of her thigh). When iodine absorbs in less than 24 hours, that signifies a deficiency which is common in the West and accounts for a variety of symptoms. Less than 8 is a call for action. Shirley’s rate had been less than 4. In Oriental countries where sea greens like kelp are a part of the normal diet in salads or rice, iodine deficiency is rarely seen. A tablespoonful a day is a good organic solution that works well for Shirley. Usually she just gulps it down, but it works also in soups and salads. Weight Control: Congratulations to the pastor, Pam and Al and Shirley on their dramatic, continuing weight loss. Under a physician’s supervision, the pastor started with a liquid diet for several weeks and then progressed to the smaller portions that his stomach was now prepared to receive under the new generation of stomach stapling: an adjustable band. He looks like a new man! Shirley lost her craving for junk foods when she started taking Vibe liquid vitamins and minerals. After five months she’s still twenty-two pounds lighter. Pam and Al had double-digit weight loss eating rice and fruit three meals a day for two weeks, per Dr. Collins’ advice. (1 cup of brown rice with 2 exchanges of fresh fruit, or 1 ½ cups of rice and add another exchange of fresh fruit.) On the 3rd week they started adding ½ cup of any cooked vegetable and unlimited fresh veggies, but… after awhile the change was “too much.” Dr. Collins is the speaker at a favorite annual event, the Health Lectures at Eden Gardens. For weight loss, he recommends that “if you’re putting together a salad, assemble your own dressing as well.” |
