Routines and remedies that work for us:
Gardening
“Black Mold,” “Bugs,” Cutworms, Fire Ants, Mulch Black Mold: Kathy Thomson’s spray of soap and cooking oil at night, followed by a washdown in the morning, takes the black “mold” (left by bugs) off of fruit tree leaves. Bug Sprays: Pat Porter keeps fleas and other “bugs” under control with a lawn spray of beer and liquid soap. Cutworms: Ernie Porter defends his tomato plants with one nail on each side of the tomato stem. He says that when a cutworm can’t reach it’s tail, it can’t cut the stem! Fire Ants:
Jack Shaffer says, “Forget the boiling water and the poison
chemicals! Just pour club soda on the
mound and the gas from the fizz will suffocate those mean little critters and
leave their tunnels uninhabitable.” Mulch:
Elton Mambala is replacing his “Florida sand” with mulch two feet
deep, free
from the county landfill! |
“Beloved, I wish
above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul
prospereth.”
