About the year 1950 Robert and August Scott purchased 40 acres of land and set about preparing a subdivision for retired Seventh-day Adventists. For the next seven years the Scotts held Sabbath worship services in their home. In 1958 Elder C. E. Weeks, a retired literature evangelist, moved to the subdivision. He was instrumental in organizing a company under the direction of Elder Schmidt, president of the Florida Conference. On Sabbath, October 15, 1960 the company was officially organized as the Inverness Seventh-day
Adventist Church. There were 25 members. In 1962 a church building was completed and dedicated by Elder Schmidt. The little church began to grow. With the increased growth, plans were made for a separate building for Community Services work. The building was completed and dedicated in 1967.
As the congregation continued to grow it became obvious that more space was essential. In 1970 under the direction of Elder M. F. Philbrick the sanctuary was enlarged.
In 1978 it was evident that more space was needed. Under the leadership of Pastor Eugene McCann and Harold Schrader, head elder, the church was enlarged again.
The next eighteen years brought much change. The original Faith Hall (1967) became too small for the functions of the church. The church started to set aside funds for future enlargement plans. In 1988 Greta Mitchell left a large sum of money to be used for the church in Inverness. This made it possible to proceed with a new Fellowship Hall. On January 13, 199l the Hall was completed and dedicated Mitchell Hall in memory of Greta Mitchell.
Currently, our church is
served by Elder Hershel R. Mercer.
